ABOUT THE BOOK
A technical reviewer of this book commented as follows: “A Dynamic Analysis of Trade and Development in Islamic Countries: Selected Case Studies is a well written study and has substantial originality
This work was funded by a generous research grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) for the period 1999-2002 Its objective is to study the structure of trade between Islamic countries and to develop the original methodology of dynamic input-output coefficients to explain complementary linkages between sectors and the developmental process in Islamic context. In carrying out this task the epistemology of unity of knowledge as derived from the precept of oneness of God in the Qur’an (tawhid) is expounded and applied to develop a normative knowledge-induced process-oriented input-output analysis for studying the issues of trade and development in the membership of the Organization of Islamic Conference. The underlying institutional and process structure on deriving pervasive linkages in the institution-economy, money-real economy sense and in view of many other complementarities is framed in the perspective of the shuratic process as derived from the exegesis of the Qur’an and then brought to bear on the issues of dynamic learning and linkages as signs of unity of knowledge in the order of Islamic political economy and world-system. The work is theoretical and empirical in nature. Its policy recommendations are aimed at the well-being of the ummah vis-à-vis the globalization process.
